Creates clear, concise and consistent signage and design language for Atlanta’s public transportation system, MARTA.
Our team’s unique spin:
While most hackathon teams immediately gravitated toward creating an app to enhance MARTA riders’ experiences, our team recognized that a key demographic of MARTA users are low-income and do not own smartphones, and another key demographic of MARTA users are infrequent riders (business people, sports fans) who will not want to download an app for a few rides. Therefore, we sought to address the most fundamental user need of navigating public transportation — clear wayfinding.
Outcomes
Following our first-place win, we took our pitch to MARTA and others in Georgia Tech’s design community. Ultimately due to budgetary constraints and other projects MARTA was working on, the signage redesign is currently being set aside, but we hope it will be implemented in the future!
